The overarching theme of the 24/25 Professional Learning Experience is Supporting students to access new worlds and different ways of thinking.

The day will build on previous Junior Cycle professional learning experiences and continue to support the Junior Cycle Key Skills. The variety of pedagogies that will feature on this day will endeavour to support teachers in developing Senior Cycle competencies with their students in the MFL classroom.

The day will be particularly focused on engaging students in the target language through real-life learning experiences, fostering student agency through real life experiences and appreciating cultural diversity through film in the MFL classroom.

Overview of MFL Cluster Professional Learning Material 2025/26

The overarching theme of the 2025/26 Professional Learning Experience is an Introduction to the Revised Specification for Junior Cycle Modern Foreign Languages.

Building on previous Junior Cycle professional learning experiences, the day will continue to support the development of the Junior Cycle Key Skills while also equipping teachers with approaches that foster Senior Cycle competencies in the MFL classroom.

A particular focus of the day will be the Action-Oriented Approach. Together, we will explore how this methodology can enrich teaching and learning in our contexts, enabling purposeful and meaningful learning experiences for students through active engagement with tasks.

This professional learning experience will also spark discussion on reframing our practice, with an emphasis on planning and assessment, as we prepare for the implementation of the Revised Specification in our classrooms from September 2026
