PLE Workshop 2024/2025

Overview of PLE Workshop 2024/2025:

This PLE supports teaching and learning in CSPE by facilitating opportunities for collaboration, reflection, resource development, and planning, across the three strands of the course specification. The first session invites participants to consider resources and methodologies to support the central role of research and enquiry in the CSPE classroom, with a particular focus on wellbeing and critical digital literacy as a vehicle for rights realisation in a democracy. In the second session, teachers are invited to explore, investigate, and share approaches to Global Citizenship with a focus again on the use of scale in an integrative specification. The final session focuses on perspectives in teaching the foundational strand of Rights and Responsibilities, invoking the use of scale as means to facilitate learning across the strands, and in informing citizenship actions.

PLE Workshop 2023/2024

Overview of PLE Workshop 2023/2024:

The focus of this PLE is to explore how to enhance student engagement with democracy in the CSPE classroom. Session 1 considers how to stimulate student interest in and thinking around democracy-related issues and events in Ireland and the wider world. Session 2 explores a range of strategies on how to support student thinking about the implications of democracy on their own lives and how a range of activities from the Council of Europe may be applicable to a teacher’s own student context. Session 3 asks teachers to consider how the CSPE short course specification can inspire ideas on democratic student actions before exploring how reflection forms an important aspect of the Citizenship Action Record.
